Argia anceps (Cerulean Dancer)

I was tempted to say that this is the archetypal Costa Rican dancer but that’s probably because it’s the first that I saw.

Amongst the variously confusing blue and black jobs in Costa Rica, this particular species shows no hint of a purple tint in the body but does frequently show a slight amber tint in the wings. All mine have jolly wide antehumerals, too, but they seem to vary a bit.

This was seen twice at Hotel Villa Zurqui and later at Rincon de la Vieja Volcano.
